Meet our teachers

Brenda Vaughn
Biology Teacher
Ms. Vaughn enthusiastically teaches biology. She received her B.A. and M.S. in Biological Sciences from UAH. She has many years of teaching experience at Huntsville High, Randolph School, Calhoun Community College and STEM Christian Academy. If you have students in grades 9-12, you will definitely want to get in on this 2-hour, laboratory based, college prep course. Corrine Cooper
Elementary Teacher
Although this is Corrinne’s first year teaching at LGA, she has been affiliated with the school for various years through co-op with her children. She has homeschooled her children for several years with two children having graduated Highschool, and one more student headed into 10th grade. Over the last 5 years, she has taught Pre-K with a Christian based curriculum and Godly character training. Mrs. Cooper is zealous about teaching and understands it is a calling from God, which she does not take lightly. She believes that teaching goes far beyond the textbooks and that there are more ways to learn besides sitting at a desk all day. She is passionate about inspiring a love of Christ and learning in each child’s heart through Godly character training and curriculum. Corrinne is a member of LifeGate Church and serves in many areas including Children’s ministry. This year, Mrs. Cooper will serve as our MicroSchool Elementary teacher (grades 3-5). She will be teaching Mathematics, Language Arts, History, Science, and Bible. She is eager and excited to kick off this upcoming school year with your child. In addition to the MicroSchool, she is teaching a co-op Geography class: “Expedition Earth” for Elementary. This course will be taught in two separate classes: K-2 & 3-6.
Nikki Brown
Health Teacher
Nikki is a member of Lifegate Church. She has homeschooled 3 children through Lifegate, 2 of which have graduated from LGA. Nikki received her practical nursing certificate and Associate degree in Humanities from MS Delta Community College. While she was at MDCC, she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, served as Vice President of her nursing class, and received academic and service awards. She was commissioned as an ambassador to the 2015 MS Practical Nurses Convention. She is currently employed as a pediatric nurse at Pediatric Associates of Madison. Nikki taught at New Life Christian Academy, Greenville, MS and has much experience in teaching Sunday School, youth ministries and worship ministries. Nikki will be teaching health grades 7-12 and 3-6 ($90 per semester) and private voice lessons.
Kaylan Penton
Public Speaking Teacher
Kaylan graduated from UAH with a Bachelors in Communication Arts. While she was there, she was a part of two honor societies: Lambda Pi Eta and the NSLS. Within these societies, Kaylan attended many leadership and communication training programs. Kaylan has worked for Madison County in the past preparing speeches and presentations for officials, and served as a marketing director for a law firm in Nashville, Tennessee.
Amber McGarr
This will be Amber's third year at LGA. Her family moved here from Indiana in 2019. She received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (K-6) in 2012. She has taught each of these grade levels in both public and private schools. Along with teaching at LGA, she homeschools her two daughters ages 5 and 11, and is actively involved in Children's Ministries at LifeGate Church.Teaching and learning with children is her passion!
